There will be at least two new WIAA girls soccer state champions this year.

Milwaukee DSHA and Waunakee, the reigning division 1 and 2 champions, each were ousted from this year's tournament with one-goal losses in regional finals.

The Dashers dropped a 1-0 decision to Hartland Arrowhead on Saturday afternoon, while the Warriors fell 2-0 to DeForest. The other two 2014 state champions, Waukesha Catholic Memorial (Division 3) and Wisconsin Rapids Assumption (Division 4), both won Saturday to advance to tonight's sectional semifinals.

Twenty-five of the 32 teams that earned No. 1 seeds for the tournament will be in action tonight. Six of the seven top-seeded sides that were eliminated lost one-goal games Saturday, while Burlington was knocked out by Milton on penalties following a 3-3 tie.

The lowest seeds among the 64 remaining teams were seeded fifth in their half of their respective sectional brackets: Menomonee Falls in Division 1, Milton in Division 2 and River Valley in Division 4. Four No. 4 seeds also are still alive, while the other 57 teams are seeded first, second or third.

Tonight's winners advance to Saturday's sectional finals, which will determine the 16 state qualifiers across the four divisions.

• Catholic Memorial, shooting to win a state title for the fourth consecutive year, routed Wisconsin Lutheran and Milwaukee St. Anthony by matching 10-0 scorelines last week to extend its playoff unbeaten streak to 20 games (19-0-1). The Crusaders have outscored foes 111-4 with 16 clean sheets in the streak, which dates to a 1-0 overtime loss to Madison Edgewood in a Division 2 state semifinal in 2011. They won Division 2 state titles in 2012 and '13 before claiming the Division 3 championship last spring.
• Emily Cervantes continues to move up in the state record book. The Catholic Memorial junior forward had four goals and two assists against Milwaukee St. Anthony to move into third place in career points – she has 322 points, one more than Emilie Pesch recorded for Brookfield Academy from 2009 to '12. Waunakee's Heather Willihnganz (1990 to '93) is second on the list with 344. Cervantes, who has 27 goals and nine assists in 15 matches this season, also is third with 143 career goals. Ozaukee's Ashley Bares (2004 to '07) tops both categories with 224 goals and 505 points, according to the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association record book (pdf).
• Schofield D.C. Everest (23-1-2), riding an 18-game winning streak, rose two spots to 43rd in this week's Top Drawer Soccer Fab 50. The Evergreens also moved up one place to No. 2 in the website's Great Lakes Region rankings, which now include Oregon (19-0-1) at No. 5. Everest continues to lead the TDS Wisconsin rankings, with the Panthers second and Neenah (13-1-6) third.
