For the first time in program history, the Oregon High School prep girls soccer team is ranked first in the state.
The Panthers (14-0-0), one of two remaining unbeaten and untied teams in the state heading into the week, moved up one spot to No. 1 in the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association Division 2 state poll released Monday.
Wauwatosa East (13-2-3) edged up one place and replaced Oregon in the second spot after extending its unbeaten streak to 11 games (10-0-1), a run that included handing previously top-ranked Waukesha West its first loss of the season 2-1 last Thursday.
West (14-1-2) slipped to No. 3 after going 1-1-1 during a tough week that featured matches against three teams that were either ranked or honorable mention in the state polls.
There also was a new No. 1 in the Division 1 rankings, as Schofield D.C. Everest (15-1-2) moved up from second to replace Milwaukee DSHA on top – the Evergreens have won 10 consecutive matches since a 2-1 loss to the Dashers back on April 24.
Brookfield Central made the biggest move of the week, jumping from honorable mention all the way to No. 2 in Division 1. The Lancers (6-2-3) knocked off DSHA 2-1 last Tuesday, then dropped a 3-2 decision to Waukesha West on Saturday.
Everest also took over the top spot in the overall rankings as voted on by the state panel of coaches, followed by Oregon, Wauwatosa East, Waukesha West and Brookfield Central.
There was just one change in the Division 3 state poll, with Green Bay Notre Dame and Mount Horeb switching spots at second and third, while the Division 4 rankings remained the same for the second straight week.
