Peter Raymonds scored goals all season for the Brookfield East boys soccer team, finding the back of the net 32 times this fall.

But the senior forward was at his best in the most important matches: Raymonds scored in the Spartans' final four games, accounting for seven of the 14 goals they scored en route to winning the WIAA Division 2 state championship.

The Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association recognized Raymonds' tremendous season, naming him Player of the Year. The honor was announced by the organization Monday, along with the all-state First XI and "Best of the Rest" teams.

Raymonds, who has verbally committed to UW-Milwaukee, also had six assists on the season and scored both of goals as East (20-2-4) topped Cedarburg 2-0 in the state final earlier this month to claim its first state title since 1997.

Two of his classmates joined him on the First XI, as goalkeeper Drew Johnson and midfielder Winston Markusse also made the top squad. Johnson was between the posts for a Spartans side that posted 15 shutouts on the season – including five in six postseason matches – while Markusse had seven goals and 11 assists.

Milwaukee Marquette, which extended its record by winning its 10th WIAA Division 1 state championship and 25th overall, had a pair of first-team selections.

Alec Philippe had a team-best 27 goals and five assists and was the lone junior on the First XI, while senior midfielder Samson D'Amato finished the year with 11 goals and eight assists for the Hilltoppers (23-1-2), who are ranked seventh in both the Top Drawer Soccer Fab 50 and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Top 25 this week. The final rankings of the season will be released next Tuesday.

Kenosha Tremper's Jaime Colin, another UW-Milwaukee recruit, was among the four forwards chosen for the top team. Colin had 26 goals and 22 assists as a senior and closed out his prep career with 65 goals in three years – he played with the FC Wisconsin Nationals in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy last season.

Striker Marcus Wollak, also a senior, scored in each of Eau Claire Memorial's final eight matches and finished the season with 25 goals and 18 assists for the Division 1 state semifinalists. Kettle Moraine midfielder Brandon Strobel also was a Best XI choice after scoring 12 goals and adding eight assists for the Lasers.

The WSCA all-state panel picked three senior defenders for the top squad.

Spencer Pearson scored one goal and led the backline for Division 2 Oregon, which allowed just seven goals in 21 matches and posted 16 clean sheets in earning its third straight state berth.

Teon Fountain was integral for Madison Memorial, which recorded 12 shutouts and suffered its lone loss of the season in the sectional semifinals, and also had five goals and two assists. Brookfield Central's Johnny Dusing rounded out the Best XI defenders.

Six of the players on the top team were "Best of the Rest" selections as juniors last fall: Dusing, Fountain, Markusse, Pearson, Raymonds and Strobel.
