Wisconsin's two representatives on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division III All-American teams each made history in landing their respective spots.
Loras (Iowa) junior defender Kinsey Campbell(Greendale) was a second-team selection on the women's team, while Milwaukee School of Engineering freshman midfielder Logan Andryk(Milwaukee Marquette) made the men's third team.
Campbell, who was the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Co-MVP, became just the second conference player to be named an NSCAA second-team All-American – the league has never had a first-team choice. She's also only the second All-American in Duhawks history, following third-team pick Kate Young in 2010.
Campbell had a goal and an assist and played in every match for Loras (19-5-0), anchoring a defense that allowed 1.17 goals per match and recorded eight clean sheets. After suffering a torn ACL in her knee just four matches into her freshman year in 2009, Campbell has been a regular on the backline for the Duhawks – she received a medical redshirt for her freshman season and will conclude her college career next fall.
She also was named to the third team of the D3soccer.com All-American team.
Andryk is the first MSOE soccer player and just the 10th athlete in any sport to earn All-American honors.
He had 14 goals and nine assists for the Raiders (14-5-1) in his first college season, tying the program record for assists in a season and ranking third with 37 points. The Northern Athletics Conference Freshman of the Year was one of three freshmen to claim men's Division III All-American status this year.
Only one state player made the first team of the All-North Region team – St. Thomas (Minn.) junior forward Nick Rapisarda (Green Bay Notre Dame) – but Wisconsin had a whopping 13 players on the second and third teams.
Rapisarda had 13 goals and three assists and was the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year for the Tommies, who are 14-0-1 in games in which the Manitowoc native has scored.
UW-Platteville, which won its first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time, landed four players on the second team: senior forward Brandon Chmiel (Cedarburg), junior defender Michael Prudisch(Verona), senior midfielder Chris Brown (McFarland) and junior goalkeeper Ian Christensen (Oregon).
Chmiel was the WIAC Co-Offensive Player of the Year and led the Pioneers with 14 goals (six game-winners) and eight assists; Prudisch was the WIAC Defensive Player of the Year for his work on a backline that yielded 0.71 goals per match and kept 11 clean sheets; Brown had seven goals and six assists and scored two of the team's three postseason goals; and Christensen posted a 0.70 goals-against average – the second-best average in program history.
And Platteville's Enzo Fuschino, whose team set a program record for wins with their 15-4-2 record, was named the North Region Coach of the Year. He is eligible for the national award, which will be announced at next month's NSCAA convention in Indianapolis.
Also on the second team were Loras junior midfielder Erik Berkowitz (Racine St. Catherine's), who had eight goals to share the team lead for the NCAA semifinalist Duhawks; UW-Oshkosh senior defender Paul Marx (New Berlin West), who helped the Titans post nine shutouts; and Beloit College senior forward Jackson Wilkins, who had eight goals and seven assists and closed out his career tied for the program lead in goals, third in assists and first in points.
Loras senior defender Malcolm Calbert (Stoughton) and Beloit's Jamaican senior striker Marc Robinson, who had 14 goals and seven assists, were among six state players on the third team. Included in that group were the duo of sophomore defenderConnor Behnke (Hartford) and junior midfielder Mark Gore, who helped Carroll win the Midwest title and advance to the second round of the NCAA tournament before a 2-1 loss to Platteville.
Senior midfielder Nate Engel became the first UW-Superior player to earn all-region honors, while Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) sophomore forward Zach Brown (Eau Claire Memorial) was lauded after his 14-goal, three-assist season.
WIAC award winners Saskia Taylor (Madison West) of UW-La Crosse and Christina Tooren of UW-Whitewater joined Campbell and Lake Forest (Ill.) freshman striker Holly Lesperance (Waukesha South) on the All-North Region first team.
Taylor, a senior midfielder, was the WIAC Defensive Player of the Year and scored a team-high five goals for the Eagles, while Tooren had 12 goals and seven assists in her final collegiate season – she ended up third in program history with 39 career goals and 96 points and fourth with 18 assists. Lesperance had 15 goals and six assists for the Foresters and was the only freshman on the top team.
Three more senior WIAC players – Whitewater midfielder Alyssa Chamberlain (De Pere), UW-Stevens Point midfielder Sammy Greer (Hartford) and UW-River Falls defender Cassie Stang – were second-team choices along with St. Norbert sophomore forward Katie Vanden Avond (De Pere), who had 26 goals this year and has 54 in the first two seasons of her college career.
Whitewater also had a third-team selection in junior defender Lauren Nashleanas(Brookfield East); UW-Oshkosh junior midfielder Chelsea Kierszh (Oshkosh West) became just the second Titans player to collect all-region honors; and UW-Eau Claire senior forward Gina Williams (Verona) was recognized after a 14-goal, three-assist season for the Blugolds.
