David Caban (Kenosha Tremper) was a regular at U.S. youth national team camps, turning out for the Under-14, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-18 teams.

This week, the University of Wisconsin midfielder made his international debut at the Under-20 level – for Puerto Rico.

Caban started both matches as Puerto Rico lost to Jamaica 4-1 and Panama 4-0 in its debut at the CONCACAF Under-20 Championships in Puebla, Mexico.

"It's always rewarding to see our guys have opportunities to play internationally," Badgers coach John Trask said in a news release. "David has represented the U.S. at many youth levels before and this is a great experience for him to be part of the Puerto Rico's U-20 team."

On Tuesday against Jamaica, Caban picked up a yellow card and was subbed out after 61 minutes and Puerto Rico down 2-1. Two days later, he played the full 90 minutes in Puerto Rico's second and final pool match.

The four semifinalists at the tournament qualify for this summer's FIFA Under-20 World Cup, which is June 21 to July 13 in Turkey.

Caban, one of 10 players on the Puerto Rican squad who plays college soccer in the U.S., has two goals and an assist in 37 appearances (29 starts) in his first two seasons at UW.
