University of Wisconsin sophomore AJ Cochran will get another chance to impress Tab Ramos as the U.S. Under-20 men's national team coach prepares to select a roster for this summer's FIFA Under-20 World Cup.
The 6-foot-3 center back was one of 24 players called into a week-long Under-20 training camp that started Monday in Carson, Calif. The camp features a match against the reserve team from Major League Soccer club Chivas USA on Sunday.
Cochran played with the Under-20 team on two occasions last year, but wasn't part of the team that finished second at the CONCACAF Under-20 Championships in February, falling to Mexico 3-1 after extra time in the final.
The roster for this camp is evenly split, with 12 players who played at the regional championships joined by a dozen who weren't on that team. The FIFA Under-20 World Cup is June 21 to July 13 in Turkey.
Cochran will miss the Badgers' spring exhibition match Saturday night at Illinois-Chicago – UW (3-0-2) hasn't allowed a goal in five spring games, most recently posting a 3-0 victory at Northern Illinois on Sunday in DeKalb, Ill.
