The U.S. Club Soccer id2 national selection team, which includes FC Wisconsin goalkeeper Santi Davila (Wauwatosa), extended its impressive run at the Mediterranean International Cup on Friday in Spain.
The id2 team rolled past Spanish side UD Perfeccionamiento Global 4-0 on Friday morning to open the 32-team knockout round, then blanked Club Gimnàstic Manresa 1-0 to earn a spot in Saturday's Category C quarterfinals.
Next up for the id2 team is a matchup against Italy's Inter Milan, which has outscored its five opponents by a 29-3 margin. Davila and Gavin Krenecki – the Sacramento Republic keeper who started both games Friday – haven't allowed yet allowed a goal for the id2 side, which has outscored foes 19-0. Saturday's match kicks off at 3 a.m. Central.
Should the id2 team advance, they would face either FC Barcelona or RCD Espanyol in the semifinals at 10:30 a.m. Central Saturday. The other side of the bracket includes Manchester City, Atlético Madrid and Celta de Vigo. The final is Sunday.
