Rose Lavelle (UW) has quickly become an impact player for the U.S. women's national team.
The 21-year-old Boston Breakers midfielder, who earned her first cap just five weeks ago, turned in two more stellar performances as the Americans swept Russia 4-0 and 5-1 in a pair of friendlies last week in Texas. (Watch highlights below)
In Thursday's victory in Frisco, Lavelle earned her first assist with the full national team when Allie Long headed in her perfectly placed corner kick from the right side in the 18th minute. The Cincinnati native, who was a three-time National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-American for the Badgers, also lit up social media again with her creativity during her 80-minute stint.
Three days later in Houston, Lavelle scored her first international goal in just her fourth cap.
She ran onto a long ball from Mallory Pugh on the left side, coasted into the box and slotted a shot past Russian goalkeeper Iuliia Grichenko to give the U.S. a 2-0 lead in the 37th minute. Lavelle played 54 minutes in the match.
A young rose blossoming before of our eyes!
