Twenty-five teams had perfect starts to the Wisconsin State Championships, winning both of their matches as group play in the six fall girls divisions kicked off last weekend at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee.

Of those sides, 15 teams posted shutouts in each of their games to start the tournament better known as the State Cup. Group play in all divisions concludes Saturday, with semifinals on Sunday and state finals Tuesday through next Thursday.

In addition to the state championship, winners in each division of the Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association event earn berths in the U.S. Youth Soccer Region II Championships, which are June 23 to 28 in Sioux Falls, S.D.

The State Cup divisions that feature high school-aged girls have traditionally are played in the fall to avoid conflicts with the WIAA prep girls season in the spring; all other age groups will be contested in the spring.
