After earning his first international cap for Puerto Rico in May, David Caban (Kenosha Tremper/UW) signed his first professional contract Monday.

The 23-year-old midfielder signed with Swedish fourth-division club Ånge IF, becoming the latest player from Chicago-based Bridges FC to join a pro team.

Caban, who had two goals and two assists in 75 appearances (66 starts) for the Badgers from 2011 to '14, will be part of a relegation battle.

Ånge (1-13-0) is last in the 14-team Division 2 Norrland, one of five leagues that make up Sweden's fourth division. The bottom two clubs will be relegated automatically, with the 12th-place team facing a playoff to keep its spot in the league for 2017. Ånge plays host to 11th-place Skellefteå FF on Saturday.

Bridges FC makes trips to Europe each summer and plays friendlies to help showcase players for pro clubs; Aaron Nichols (UW) was one such example – he signed with Swedish second-division club Ljungskile SK in 2013 after impressing the team during the tour.

Caban, a regular in U.S. youth national team camps, made his international debut in Puerto Rico's 3-1 loss to the U.S. in a friendly May 22 in Bayamón. However, he missed two second-round Caribbean Cup matches, a 3-3 draw at Grenada on June 1 and a 2-1 home victory over Antigua and Barbuda on June 4, due to a calf injury, he told the Kenosha News. • Tosaint Ricketts (UW-Green Bay) came off the bench and made his Major League Soccer debut Saturday, playing the final 19 minutes of Toronto FC's 4-1 victory over visiting D.C. United. The Canadian international, who turns 29 on Aug. 6, had been out of contract since leaving Turkish second-division club Boluspor earlier this year and signed with Toronto after several weeks training with the MLS club. "We are pleased to add another Canadian international with valuable experience for both club and country," Toronto FC general manager Tim Bezbatchenko said in a news release. "Tosaint has trained with the team and has fit in well within the group. We are pleased to get this deal finalized." Ricketts started his pro career in 2009 with Finnish club MyPa, and also played for Politehnica Timișoara (Romania), Vålerenga and Sandnes Ulf (Norway), Bucaspor (Turkey) and Hapoel Haifa (Israel) before signing with Bulaspor last August. • J.C. Banks (Milwaukee Riverside/UW-Green Bay) scored his first goal of the North American Soccer League season, striking from 30 yards out in the 14th minute of Minnesota United's 3-1 win over the Fort Lauderdale Strikers on Saturday night in Blaine, Minn. Banks, who has started all four of the Loons' fall season matches, got the ball from Ibson in plenty of space and fired a dipping shot that beat Strikers goalkeeper Diego Restrepo inside the left post. • Sarah Hagen (Appleton North/UW-Milwaukee) and the Orlando Pride dropped a 5-2 decision to the host Seattle Reign in National Women's Soccer League on Saturday night, but Hagen set up the Pride's final goal with a perfectly weighted through ball that Kristen Edmonds finished in the 89th minute. Hagen's two assists this lead are tops for the expansion team. On Twitter: @sarahapplehagen
  • Charlie Lyon (Marquette) didn't need to make a save to post his first clean sheet of the season, as Seattle Sounders 2 posted 1-0 victory over Portland Timbers 2 in a USL match Sunday night in Tukwila, Wash. "It's a great feeling to walk out of the game with a zero," Lyon said after the team's third straight win. "I've got to say that all the guys in front of me worked incredibly hard; they were the ones that really secured the shutout. They made my job easy today, so hats off to them." • Andrija Novakovich (Muskego) scored the lone goal, converting a penalty in stoppage time, as the Reading Under-21 team lost to host Basingstoke Town FC 3-1 in a preseason friendly Saturday in England. On Twitter: @AndrijaNovakov3
