The U.S. Youth Soccer Region II Presidents Cup kicked off Thursday in Westfield, Ind., with seven Wisconsin teams compiling a 3-3-1 record in opening matches.

The Presidents Cup provides a state, regional and national competition for boys and girls Under-13 through Under-17 teams that didn't qualify for the State Cup.

At the Region II event, most divisions have two four-team groups that will play pool matches through Saturday, with the pool winners to meet in Sunday's final. The Under-13 and Under-14 girls divisions include 10 teams, so the three group winners and the top second-place side will advance to Saturday night's semifinals.

Region II winners earn berths in the National Presidents Cup, which is July 14 to 17 in Tulsa, Okla. An eighth state team, the Under-16 girls from Howard club United Hurricanes, were scheduled to play at regionals, but withdrew from the event.
