Axel Sjöberg (Marquette) picked up the first point of his Major League Soccer career on Saturday, helping the surging Colorado Rapids pull out a 2-2 draw against the host Montreal Impact.
As Shkelzen Gashi played a free kick from the left side into the box, Sjöberg made a back-post run. The 6-foot-7 center back tried to head the ball but couldn't quite get to it, and instead the ball hit off his thigh.
That worked well enough, though, as the ball bounced to the middle of the 6-yard box, where fellow center back Bobby Burling scored his first goal of the season to level the score in the 72nd minute. (Watch highlights below)
The Rapids (5-2-2) are tied with Real Salt Lake and the Los Angeles Galaxy for the most points in MLS and went 4-1-1 in six matches in April. Sjöberg has made 21 league appearances in his two-year career – he's started and played the full 90 minutes in all but one of those matches, sitting out just 1 minute in the process.
