For the first time in at least nine seasons, the Ashland prep girls soccer team lost on its home turf.

Sophomore Alayna Franson scored in the 71st minute, junior Sydney Zettler added an insurance goal in the 87th and senior Brianna DeNamur made five saves for the clean sheet as Rhinelander beat the host Oredockers 2-0 in a Great Northern Conference match on April 21, Ashland's first home loss since at least 2008.

According to the archives maintained by our partners at the Wisconsin Sports Network, the Oredockers had been 49-0-1 on their home field since 2010. Their only loss in 2009 came in the WIAA Division 2 state semifinals, meaning the last time Ashland could have lost on its home field was nine seasons ago.

The Oredockers' lone draw at home since 2010 came on June 12, 2014, against Rice Lake, a 1-1 tie in a Division 3 sectional semifinal – Ashland advanced 3-0 on penalty kicks that day.

  • Waunakee opened its Northern Badger Conference schedule with wins over DeForest (3-0) and Sauk Prairie (4-1) last week, extending its unbeaten streak in league play to 65 games (64-0-1). Waunakee is 75-1-1 all-time in Northern Badger play since the league was formed in 2002 – its only loss was 1-0 to Reedsburg on May 20, 2003, and the tie was a 1-1 draw against Mount Horeb on May 5, 2015.
  • Reigning Division 1 state champion Schofield D.C. Everest routed host Marshfield 7-0 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference match Thursday to push its unbeaten streak to 31 (29-0-2) since a 2-1 setback against Milwaukee DSHA on April 24, 2015.
  • Two defending state champions, Oregon (Division 2) and Waukesha Catholic Memorial (Division 3), square off at 5 p.m. Friday in a first-round match of the 22nd annual Laura Moynihan Tournament at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee. The Panthers are ranked second in the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association Division 2 state poll, while the host Crusaders top the Division 3 rankings. The nightcap features the next two teams in the Division 3 poll, as Green Bay Notre Dame faces Grafton. The eight-team field also includes Brookfield Academy, the state's top-ranked Division 4 team, along with Fond du Lac, Kenosha Tremper and Wisconsin Rapids Assumption. Championship and consolation semifinals are Saturday, followed by placement matches – the final is set for 2 p.m. at Kohler Engines Stadium. Laura Moynihan Tournament bracket
  • Meanwhile, seven state sides will be in Burlington, Iowa, this weekend for the 10th annual adidas Tournament of Champions. Milwaukee DSHA (Border Battle) and Whitefish Bay (adidas Bracket) opened play at the 49-team event Thursday; the Dashers are making their ninth consecutive appearance at the TOC, while the Blue Dukes – ranked fifth in Division 2 – are in the tournament for the seventh time. Waunakee, which is in another Border Battle division, and Middleton (Great River Medical Bracket) each are making their eighth straight trip and Sussex Hamilton (Heartland Lodge Bracket) is in the event for the third straight year. Brookfield East (Great River Medical), ranked second in Division 3, and Cedarburg (Top Drawer Soccer Bracket) are making their TOC debuts. Tournament of Champions website
