Andrew Stadler (Wauwatosa West) made his first start in the Allsvenskan, Sweden's top division of soccer, on Sunday and played a key role in a historic win for his club.

Stadler set up Emir Smajic's 37th-minute opener, then scored what proved to be the game-winner 3 minutes later as Östersunds FK topped host Falkenbergs FF 2-1 for its first Allsvenskan victory. (Watch highlights)

Östersunds (1-1-1), which was formed in 1996, earned promotion to the top tier for the first time by finishing second in the Superettan last fall. Stadler had two goals and an assist in 14 league matches for Östersunds after joining the club in August.

The 27-year-old Stadler has consistently scored at every level of Swedish soccer, logging 35 goals in 108 league appearances with Sandvikens IF, Landskrona BoIS and Östersunds over the past four seasons.

On Sunday, he got a ball from Alex Dyer on the right side of the box and worked toward the end line before squaring it back for Smajic to finish. Minutes later, Stadler was open on the right side again, ran on to a header by Sotirios Papagiannopoulos and ripped a shot past Falkenbergs goalkeeper Otto Martler.
