Prep girls notes: Two state champions top WSCA preseason polls

Schofield D.C. Everest and Waukesha Catholic Memorial, two of the four reigning WIAA state girls soccer champions, open the season atop the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association rankings in their respective divisions.

The Evergreens (27-1-2 in 2015) are No. 1 in the Division 1 preseason poll, and bring a 22-game winning streak into the season. Catholic Memorial (23-3-2), which has won state titles each of the past four years, leads the way in the Division 3 rankings.

Waukesha West is ranked first in Division 2, while defending state champion Oregon – unbeaten in its 24 matches last season – is third. In Division 4, Brookfield Academy starts the year at No. 1, with reigning champion La Crosse Aquinas fourth.

  • DSHA remained 25th in this week's Top Drawer Soccer Fab 50, third in the website's Great Lakes Region rankings and first in its state rankings. D.C. Everest is fifth in the Great Lakes and second in the state, with Waukesha West third.
  • The Dashers also are fifth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Region III rankings, up one spot from the preseason poll.
  • Catholic Memorial opened its season Thursday with wins over South Carolina's Hilton Head Christian 10-0 and Hilton Head Island 5-1. The Crusaders close out their annual southern trip Friday against Georgia's Savannah Christian.
