Former University of Wisconsin teammates Drew Conner and A.J. Cochran are teammates once again.

Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire loaned Conner, a 22-year-old midfielder, to their USL affiliate Saint Louis FC on Friday. Terms of the loan allow the Fire to recall Conner at any point during the MLS season.

"Drew is a hard working, tough, box-to-box central midfielder. He has good feet and can get himself out of tough spots," Saint Louis FC coach Dale Schilly said in a news release. "I'm eager to see him develop his skills as a professional."

Conner signed a homegrown contract with the Fire in December after being a four-year starter for the Badgers. He had six goals and 12 assists in 73 appearances (all starts), missing just four games in his college career.

During his first two seasons at UW, he played in front of center back Cochran, who signed with Saint Louis FC earlier this month. Conner didn't make the game-day roster for any of the Fire's first three MLS matches this season, and was loaned to Saint Louis FC along with defender Patrick Doody.

"Patrick and Drew need games to remain game fit and sharp," Fire general manager Nelson Rodriguez said in a news release. "In addition, we know they will receive excellent training, as well as a warm reception from the great fans of Saint Louis FC."

Conner made his professional debut Saturday night, coming off the bench to play the final 7 minute of Saint Louis FC's 1-0 loss to Real Monarchs SLC in Sandy, Utah, in both teams' season opener.

  • Andrew Ribeiro (Green Bay Notre Dame) scored the first goal in Orlando City B history to tie the score, but the Wilmington Hammerheads won the USL opener 2-1 on Saturday night in Melbourne, Fla. Ribeiro pounced on a failed clearance at the top of the box and fired home in the 56th minute. However, the 25-year-old midfielder was not pleased with his performance. "A goal doesn't make up for the rest of my game. I am embarrassed with my play tonight and will work very hard for this team to change that," he tweeted after the game. On Twitter: @Brazilribs
  • Kyle Greig (Stevens Point) headed home the lone goal off a set piece in the 59th minute, lifting Vancouver Whitecaps 2 over host Orange County Blues FC 1-0 in a USL opener Saturday night in Irvine, Calif. It was Greig's debut with Whitecaps 2.
  • Lauren Sesselmann (Green Bay Notre Dame) was released from Houston Dash training camp Wednesday, but it didn't take long for the defender to get an invitation from another National Women's Soccer League team. Sesselmann, 32, joined up with two-time defending league champion FC Kansas City and started in Saturday's 3-0 victory over Kansas in a preseason friendly. She played for FCKC in the inaugural 2013 NWSL season before being selected by Houston in the 2014 expansion draft. However, the Canadian international played just 45 minutes in one appearance in two seasons with the Dash, struggling with injuries, including a torn ACL in her left knee suffered in February 2014. • Carlos McCrary, who played three seasons with the Madison 56ers in the National Premier Soccer League, is tied for 12th in the German fifth-division Hessenliga with eight goals for Sportfreunde-Seligenstadt. The 24-year-old had scored in three straight matches until Friday's 2-0 away loss to Hessen Dreieich. Sportfreunde-Seligenstadt (11-9-4) is seventh in the 17-team league. On Twitter: @CarlosMcCrary
  • Phil Boerger, who played for the 56ers in the NPSL in 2008, was named goalkeeper coach for USL side Toronto FC II and the Toronto FC Academy team in the Premier Development League. Boerger, 25, played collegiately at Evansville and Syracuse and has been an assistant at Jamestown (N.D.), Syracuse, Georgia Southern and Florida Gulf Coast since finishing his college career.
