Andrew Ribeiro (Green Bay Notre Dame) will continue his career in USL, though the versatile defender once again is affiliated with a Major League Soccer club.

Orlando City B, which will debut this season as the second team for MLS club Orlando City SC, acquired Ribeiro from fellow USL club Charlotte Independence late last month. Neither team announced details of the acquisition.

The 25-year-old Ribeiro was a mainstay for the Independence last year during their inaugural season, logging a team-high 2,311 minutes. He previously played in the league with the Harrisburg City Islanders (2013) and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds (2014), sandwiched between a stint with then-MLS club Chivas USA. Ribeiro played several matches for the Chivas USA Under-23 team.

Orlando City B coach Anthony Pulis announced the addition of Ribeiro, a Creighton alum who has been used as a center back, outside back and defensive midfielder during his professional career, along with Scottish goalkeeper Mark Ridgers.

“Andrew and Mark will bring a great amount of national and international experience to our team,” said Pulis, a former Orlando City player whose father, Tony, is the manager of Premier League club West Bromwich Albion. “We’ve been monitoring them for some time and we are really excited to have them join to strengthen our squad. We look forward to working with them and benefiting from their contributions.”

  • After two standout seasons with the Rochester Rhinos in USL, Tony Walls (Wauwatosa East/UW-Green Bay) is on trial with Minnesota United FC of the second-tier North American Soccer League. The 26-year-old midfielder played the final 26 minutes of United's 4-0 loss to the host Portland Timbers on Sunday. Minnesota also will play the Chicago Fire on Wednesday and the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday at the Simple Invitational preseason tournament in Portland. Walls, who was named to the All-USL First Team last year after helping lead Rochester to the USL championship, has one very strong connection to the United roster: J.C. Banks (Milwaukee Riverside/UW-Green Bay). The good friends have an extensive history, having been teammates with FC Milwaukee Nationals, UW-Green Bay, the Milwaukee Wave and the Rhinos. • Center back A.J. Cochran (UW) made a quick impact during his trial with the Colorado Rapids, scoring the lone goal on an 86th-minute header of a 1-0 preseason victory over the Sacramento Republic on Feb. 13. The 23-year-old Cochran was released by the Houston Dynamo after two seasons, and had a brief trial with the New York Red Bulls earlier this month. On Twitter: @Alec_Cochran
  • James "C" Nortey (Marquette) is on trial with USL club Arizona United. The forward started and played the first half of Saturday's 0-0 draw against Swope Park Rangers, hitting the crossbar on a shot in the 2nd minute. On Twitter: @cicinho17
  • Matt Pyzdrowski (Marquette) was in goal as Helsingborgs IF dispatched GAIS 3-1 in a Swedish Cup third-round match Saturday. Thirty-two teams were placed into eight groups for the third round of the tournament, which started last summer, with the group winners advancing to next month's quarterfinals. Pyzdrowski, 29, is Helsingborgs' starter this season after he served as a backup during his first season with the top-tier Allsvenskan club last year. On Twitter: @MattPyzdrowski
  • Center back Eric Pothast (Marquette) left Swedish second-division club Ängelholms FF after two seasons and plans to continue his career in the U.S., according to multiple Swedish media reports. On Twitter: @Eric_Pothast
