Andrew Ribeiro (Green Bay Notre Dame) will continue his career in USL, though the versatile defender once again is affiliated with a Major League Soccer club.
Orlando City B, which will debut this season as the second team for MLS club Orlando City SC, acquired Ribeiro from fellow USL club Charlotte Independence late last month. Neither team announced details of the acquisition.
The 25-year-old Ribeiro was a mainstay for the Independence last year during their inaugural season, logging a team-high 2,311 minutes. He previously played in the league with the Harrisburg City Islanders (2013) and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds (2014), sandwiched between a stint with then-MLS club Chivas USA. Ribeiro played several matches for the Chivas USA Under-23 team.
Orlando City B coach Anthony Pulis announced the addition of Ribeiro, a Creighton alum who has been used as a center back, outside back and defensive midfielder during his professional career, along with Scottish goalkeeper Mark Ridgers.
“Andrew and Mark will bring a great amount of national and international experience to our team,” said Pulis, a former Orlando City player whose father, Tony, is the manager of Premier League club West Bromwich Albion. “We’ve been monitoring them for some time and we are really excited to have them join to strengthen our squad. We look forward to working with them and benefiting from their contributions.”
