Sarah Tompkins (Franklin) was named an assistant coach in the Illinois State women's program and will work with the Redbirds' goalkeepers.

Tompkins was a graduate assistant at Carson-Newman (Tenn.) for the past two seasons – she started her college career at the NCAA Division II school in 2010 before transferring to Division I Tennessee-Martin for her final two seasons.

"Sarah brings a good deal of both playing and coaching experience to our program, having both competed on and having coached for championship winning programs," Illinois State coach Eric Golz said in a news release. "In her work at Carson-Newman, she helped develop a nationally competitive program while having a large hand in coaching, operations and recruiting. Her goalkeeping experience as both a player and a coach will have an immediate impact on our program."

  • Tory Pomeroy, who was the first women's soccer coach at Madison College, was named to the same position at Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pa. Pomeroy led the WolfPack to a 13-14-3 overall record in her two seasons, including an 8-7-1 mark last fall. Madison College announced last month that Pomeroy would not continue in the position. She succeeds Dan Berg, who had been the only coach for the Falcons since their program began in 2006. Lackawanna, a National Junior College Athletic Association Division I program, finished 0-7-0 last season.
  • UW-Whitewater scrimmaged the Costa Rican women's national team, which played in last summer's FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada, on Friday in San Jose. The Warhawks are visiting Costa Rica as part of the school's Global Engagement Program and have been leading soccer clinics for local youth players during their trip.
