Midfielder Patrick Hodan (Brookfield/Milwaukee Marquette) and forward C. Nortey (Marquette) are among the 59 college players invited to the Major League Soccer Player Combine, which is Jan. 7 to 12 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

UW-Milwaukee coach Kris Kelderman (Neenah) will coach one of the four teams at the event, which allows teams to scout players ahead of the MLS SuperDraft on Jan. 14 in Baltimore.

Hodan had 29 goals and 19 assists in 87 career appearances (51 starts) for the Fighting Irish and was named to the second team of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-America team in 2014. As a senior, he recorded three goals and six assists for Notre Dame.

Nortey, a native of Ghana, finished his college career with 30 goals and nine assists in 74 matches (69 starts) for the Golden Eagles. He had four goals and three assists in 16 appearances (all starts) and was named Marquette's MVP in 2015.

  • Patrick McLain (Eau Claire Memorial) will join a new team next year, as USL club Sacramento Republic announced this week that it was not picking up its 2016 contract option on the 26-year-old goalkeeper. McLain posted a 1.26 goals-against average and six shutouts in 25 appearances in all competitions this year in his only season with the Republic. He previously played with now-defunct MLS club Chivas USA in 2012 and '13 and spent the first half of the 2014 season in what was then known as USL PRO with Orange County Blues FC. • Genevieve Richard (UW) and Nojima Stella Kanagawa Sagamihara missed out on promotion to Japan's Nadeshiko League Division 1 for next season by the slimmest of margins. Richard posted her fourth clean sheet of the year as Nojima Stella and host Speranza FC Osaka Takatsuki tied 0-0 in the second leg of their promotion-relegation playoff series Saturday, leaving the series level 2-2 on aggregate, but the home side kept its spot in the top tier on the away goals tiebreaker. Richard had a 1.13 goals-against average in her first pro season. On Twitter: @GenRichard_GK
