After several years as one of the top amateur goalkeepers in the Milwaukee area, Matt Eisold (Burlington/Wisconsin Lutheran) got his first shot at professional soccer last winter with the Milwaukee Wave of the Major Arena Soccer League.

The 27-year-old Eisold is back with the Wave again this season and is joining a pro outdoor team, too, as earlier this week he signed with the Milwaukee Torrent for their inaugural 2016 season in the American Soccer League.

"He's a really good shot-stopper, good reflexes, good with his feet," Torrent owner and coach Andreas Davi said of the 5-foot-11 Eisold, who impressed during the team's first open tryout last week. "He's not the tallest goalkeeper, but I was a goalie and I'm short. I'm happy to have him as one of our two goalkeepers."

Eisold helped Milwaukee Sport Club win back-to-back Wisconsin Soccer Leagues Major Division titles in 2013 and '14. He earned all-conference honors three times at Wisconsin Lutheran during his career (2006 to '09) and recently finished his sixth season as an assistant at the school. Eisold also coaches youth team and goalkeepers at Elm Grove SC.

The Torrent, who now have seven players under contract for 2016, also announced a partnership with the Bayer Leverkusen Academy. Davi said the arrangement with his boyhood club in Germany could see players who reach the end of their youth careers but are not offered contracts with the Bundesliga club join the Torrent.
