Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy

Notre Dame senior Patrick Hodan (Brookfield/Milwaukee Marquette) and University of Wisconsin junior Rose Lavelle were named to the watchlist for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, given to the nation's top college soccer players.

Hodan was a National Soccer Coaches Association of America first-team All-American and the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year last season, leading the Fighting Irish with nine goals and adding three assists. The midfielder was one of 15 semifinalists for the Hermann Trophy in 2014.

Lavelle, a Cincinnati native, was a second-team selection on the NSCAA All-American team last fall after scoring three goals to go along with with team-best 10 assists as the Badgers (19-3-2) set a program record for wins in a season.

Thirty men and 28 women earned spots on the Hermann Trophy watchlists. Later in the fall, NCAA Division I coaches who are NSCAA members will vote to determine the 15 semifinalists. There also will be an online fan vote in November and the six finalists (three men and three women) will be announced. Winners will be honored at a banquet Jan. 8 in St. Louis. No player from Wisconsin has ever won the award.

  • Lavelle was named to the first team of the Top Drawer Soccer Women's College Preseason Best XI, while UW teammate Kinley McNicoll made the second team and Badgers forward Emily Borgmann was part of the All-Freshman team. View all teams

  • UW-Parkside, heading into its first season under new coach Brittany Nikolic, is ranked ninth the NSCAA Division II women's preseason poll. The Rangers finished 18-1-3 last season under Troy Fabiano (Kenosha Bradford), who left to take over at UW-Milwaukee.
  • UW-Whitewater, which has won or shared the past five Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season titles, checked in at No. 20 in the NSCAA Division III women's preseason rankings. The Warhawks (18-4-0 last fall) have won 29 consecutive WIAC matches since a 2-1 loss to UW-Stout on Sept. 24, 2011.
