Luke Goodnetter (Brookfield East) played at the University of Wisconsin and UW-Green Bay before returning home to finsh his college career at UW-Milwaukee.
He'll also get the chance to start his professional career in familiar surroundings, as he signed with the Milwaukee Torrent for their inaugural 2016 season in the new American Soccer League 2.
"He's going to be a huge asset for the Torrent and I'm happy to have him join us," Torrent owner and coach Andreas Davi said of Goodnetter, who played for him with the Milwaukee Bavarians in the National Premier Soccer League in summer 2012.
Goodnetter earned All-Horizon League honors both seasons he played at UW-Milwaukee. The sturdy midfielder made the second team after recording two goals and six assists in 2013, then was a first-team selection following a senior season that saw him record a team-high four assists while wearing the captain's armband.
He started his college career at UW in 2010, starting 18 of 19 matches as a freshman, then had three goals in 18 appearances for UW-Green Bay in 2011. Goodnetter, who starred at Elm Grove SC and FC Milwaukee (now FC Wisconsin) in addition to earning all-state honors at Brookfield East, sat out the 2012 college season due to Horizon League transfer rules.
The 23-year-old Goodnetter is the third player to sign with the Torrent for 2016, following James Weber (Hartford) and Ian Bennett.
