July 30, 1994: Bavarian SC became the first – and still only – Wisconsin team to play in a U.S. Open Cup final, falling to San Francisco's Greek-American AC 3-0 at UGH Field in Oakford, Pa. The California side took the lead on an own goal in the 56th minute, and Mike Deleray added goals in the 61st and 81st as Greek-American AC won its second U.S. Open Cup title. "I was pleased with the effort and performance of our guys," Bavarians coach Brian Tompkins told The Milwaukee Sentinel. "We just weren't able to convert some of our scoring opportunities, and they took advantage of that." The Glendale club, playing under the name Bavarian Leinenkugel, beat St. Louis Scott Gallagher 4-1 and Illinois' AAC Eagles 2-1 after extra time to advance through Region II play, then received a forfeit from Florida's McCormick Kickers to qualify for the final.
