Tosaint Ricketts (UW-Green Bay) and Canada opened play at the CONCACAF Gold Cup with a 0-0 draw against El Salvador on Wednesday night in Carson, Calif.
The Canadians posted their fifth consecutive clean sheet and extended their unbeaten streak to six (4-0-2) with the tie, which left all four teams in Group B with one point apiece – Jamaica and Costa Rica tied 2-2 earlier in the evening.
Ricketts had a great opportunity to break the scoreless deadlock in his 40th cap, beating two Salvadoran defenders down the right side in the 43rd minute, but fired over the crossbar.
Next up for Canada is a match Saturday night against Jamaica in Houston (5:30 p.m., Fox Sports 2), followed by the group finale Tuesday night against Costa Rica in Toronto (7:30 p.m., Fox Sports 1) – it will be the first Gold Cup game in Canada.
