Ten Wisconsin players were among more than 430 players from 25 states who started play at the U.S. Youth Futsal National I.D. Camp on Wednesday in New Century and Overland Park, Kan.

Players born from 1997 to 2004 were selected for the national camp based on their performances at one of eight regional I.D. camps held over the past year. Wisconsin is part of the Central Region, which held its regional last November in Kansas City.

The state girls players chosen for the camp are Gillian Anunson, Brynn Hansen, Mallory McGuire and Maddie Thompson, while Nick Chiappa, Takumi Ikeda, Benjamin Lacocque, Sam Piascik, Ben Piascik and Dan Spigelman are representing Wisconsin on the boys side. McGuire and Chiappa are from the Wisconsin Futsal League in the Milwaukee area; the other eight players play in Madison Futsal.

U.S. Youth Futsal technical director Keith Tozer, the former longtime Milwaukee Wave coach who also is the U.S. Futsal national team coach, is leading the National I.D. Camp. Mark Litton (Racine St. Catherine's/UW-Parkside), the U.S. Youth Futsal director of goalkeeping, is overseeing keepers at the five-day camp.

After the event, U.S. Youth Futsal coaches will select Under-18, Under-16, Under-14 and Under-12 boys and girls national teams. Teams in the three oldest age groups will travel to Costa Rica from July 30 to Aug. 1 and play matches against local clubs Colegio Ezcazu, Colegio Santa Ana and Borussia Futsal, while the Under-12 sides are expected to play games in Canada later this year.
