Mike Gentile, one of the most accomplished players in University of Wisconsin men's soccer history, is one of seven individuals who will be inducted into the Wisconsin Athletics Hall of Fame in September.

Gentile will be just the second men's soccer player in the Hall of Fame, joining his former teammate Scott Lamphear, who was inducted in 2011. The two were part of the Badgers' 1995 team that won the program's only NCAA national championship.

A Michigan native, Gentile earned All-Big Ten Conference honors all four years at UW, making the first team three times. The Badgers compiled a 61-19-7 record and made three NCAA tournament appearances during his career.

Gentile was UW's captain in 1995, led the national champions with 21 points (five goals and 11 assists) and was named a third-team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America – he's one of only seven Badgers players to earn All-American honors. He finished with 16 goals in his college career, ranks sixth in school history with 21 assists and ninth with 53 points.

After his time at UW, Gentile was drafted twice by Major League Soccer teams, by the Colorado Rapids in the first round of the 1996 College Draft and then again by the Tampa Bay Mutiny in the 2000 SuperDraft. However, he never played in MLS and played with the Milwaukee Rampage (1996 to '99) and Minnesota Thunder (1999 to 2002) in the USISL and the A-League during his seven-year professional career.

The induction ceremony for the Wisconsin Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2015 is Sept. 11 at Union South, and the group will also be honored the next day on the field during the UW football team's home opener against Miami (Ohio).
