FC Wisconsin Nationals – or its predecessor, FC Milwaukee – has fielded an Under-17/18 team in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy for all eight of the league's seasons. But the team has never had a match like the one it had Saturday.
Adrian Roman scored four goals and Blake Carr (Hartland Arrowhead) added a hat trick as the Nationals routed Ohio club Internationals 9-1 in a Central Conference Mid-America Division game at the FC Wisconsin Complex in Germantown.
The nine goals were the most scored by the Under-17/18 side in their Academy history – their previous high was six, coming in a 6-4 win over the Internationals back on June 4, 2011 – and set a record for the largest margin of victory.
UW-Green Bay recruit Buran Huseini (South Milwaukee) and Jordan Palmer (Whitefish Bay), who has verbally committed to Marquette for 2016, also added goals as FC Wisconsin built an 8-0 lead before the Internationals got on the board in the 88th minute.
Carr scored in the 90th minute, giving him a team-high 13 goals this season. Roman had pulled level with him with his four-goal outburst, scoring in the 21st, 29th, 37th and 80th, and giving him 11 goals in a span of six matches.
On Sunday, Daniel Giraldo scored a 90th-minute equalizer as the Nationals (8-14-5) closed out their regular season with a 1-1 draw against Ohio's Crew SC Academy. FC Wisconsin finished 12th in the 13-team Mid-America Division.
The Nationals' Under-15/16 side was shut out in its final two divisional matches, falling 1-0 to Internationals and 2-0 to the Crew. They finished 9-16-2 overall and 10th in the division.
And the FC Wisconsin Under-13/14 team (0-23-1) lost to Internationals 4-0 and 10-0 to the Crew. They will wrap up the season with three matches at the Under-13/14 Showcase from June 19 to 22 in Westfield, Ind.
Another Nationals team, made up of a combination of Under-16 and Under-17 players, will play in a Showcase event from June 22 to 25 in Westfield.
