What a week it's been for Drew Whalen.
The Western Illinois forward recorded a hat trick in his National Premier Soccer League debut last Sunday, helping the Madison 56ers post a 3-1 victory over the Minnesota United FC Reserves in a Midwest Region match in Woodbury, Minn.
Then on Thursday, the 20-year-old was named the NPSL Player of the Week for his efforts.
Whalen scored in the 6th, 57th and 63rd minutes for the 56ers (1-0-1 NPSL), who play host to the Reserves on Friday in their 11th league home opener. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Breese Stevens Field.
A native of Peoria, Ill., the 6-foot-1 Whalen has scored four goals in 23 appearances through his first two seasons at Western Illinois.
