The FC Wisconsin Nationals' top two teams ended winless streaks last weekend at the club's complex in Germantown, with each side posting a win and a draw against Minnesota teams in U.S. Soccer Development Academy play.

Adrian Roman scored both goals as the Under-17/18 team topped Minnesota Thunder Academy 2-1 on Saturday to snap a four-game losing streak. A day later, Abdul Kooistra (Madison Memorial) opened the scoring in the 16th minute in a 1-1 tie with Shattuck-St. Mary's – the University of Wisconsin recruit is second on the team with eight goals for the Nationals (7-12-4).

The Under-15/16 side halted a seven-game winless slide in a 2-2 draw with the Thunder on Saturday, with Robleh Omar (Madison West) and Stevi Krecak (Muskego) scoring equalizers in the 10th and 60th. Against Shattuck on Sunday, Simar Perez (Oak Creek) gave the home side the lead in the 14th and Burim Huseini (South Milwaukee) added goals in the 28th and 76th in a 3-0 victory. Stephen Clemens (Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah) posted the shutout for the Nationals (7-14-2).

Neither Krecak nor Huseini had scored coming into the weekend, while Omar and Perez are tied for second on the team with five goals apiece.

FC Wisconsin's Under-13/14 team dropped a 4-0 decision to the Thunder on Saturday, falling to 0-19-1 on the season.

All three Nationals teams are off this weekend, then play May 23 at Chicago Magic PSG in their final away games of the season – they close out with three straight home matches.

  • The U.S. Youth Soccer Region II Midwest Regional League announced changes to its leadership and structure intended to "encourage continued growth in the operations and competitive level of the league." The league includes nearly 1,300 of the top USYS teams from 13 states, including Wisconsin, divided into three tiers: Premier I, Premier II and First Division. The new structure, which includes an executive committee and three subcommittees (Operations, Technical and Club Leaders), will allow technical and club leaders from the state associations to have more input on the league and increase benefits to member clubs, according to a news release. One of the league's goals is to launch additional MRL-hosted events, with those events tailored to maximize college scouting. Pat Hodgins, the programs administrator for the Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association, is on the Operations Subcommittee, while WYSA Associate Director of Coaching Craig Carlson (Madison West) is on the Technical Subcommittee. The MRL also unveiled a new logo. (Read news release)
