Saturday's National Women's Soccer League match between the Chicago Red Stars and Boston Breakers in Bridgeview, Ill., provided memorable moments for former college teammates Cara Walls (Wauwatosa East/UW) and Michele Dalton (UW).

Walls scored the first goal of her professional career and Dalton posted the shutout as the Red Stars blanked the Breakers 3-0 at Toyota Park. (Watch highlights below)

Dalton, who grew up in the Chicago suburb of Mount Prospect, stopped all six shots she faced to earn the clean sheet in her NWSL debut. She played professionally in Iceland and Sweden the past two seasons before returning home and joining the Red Stars as the top backup to starter Karina LeBlanc – she is with the Canadian national team preparing for this summer's Women's World Cup in her home country.

Walls made her third appearance for Chicago, coming on as a sub in the 67th minute and making an impact just 3 minutes later. She took a pass from fellow rookie Sofia Huerta on the right side of the box, worked around defender Rachel Wood and fired a right-footed shot past Breakers keeper Jami-Ann Kranich to give the home side a 2-0 lead. Boston has allowed a league-high 12 goals through four matches.

The Red Stars added Monica Gonyo (New Berlin/Waukesha Catholic Memorial) to their roster before the match, and she served as the backup goalkeeper.

  • Rosie Malone-Povolny (Marquette) scored for the third time in four games, but it was host Medkila's lone goal in a 7-1 rout at the hands of Avaldsnes in a Toppserien match on Saturday in Norway.
  • Tosaint Ricketts (UW-Green Bay) and Hapoel Haifa pulled out another come-from-behind victory in their relegation battle, getting goals from former D.C. United striker Hamdi Salihi in the 84th and 89th minutes to stun host Hapoel Ra'Anana 2-1 in a Ligat ha'Al match Saturday. Hapoel Haifa (9-17-6) moved into sixth place in the eight-team relegation round heading into the final week of the season, two points ahead of seventh-place Ashdod (6-13-13) – the bottom two teams will be relegated to the Liga Leumit for next season. Hapoel Haifa plays host to second-place Maccabi Netanya (11-14-7) in Friday's finale. On Twitter: @TosaintRicketts
