Bavarian SC was the only club to enter this year's Wisconsin Amateur Cup, which was supposed to start with matches next weekend.

Instead, the Bavarians claimed the state's spot in the U.S. Adult Soccer Association Amateur Cup, which is June 12 to 14 in Overland Park, Kan.

The Bavarians were ousted from the state competition by the Croatian Eagles each of the past two years, falling 1-0 in the final in 2013 and 2-1 in the semifinals last spring. The Glendale club is 5-4-4 and stands fifth out of 11 teams in the Wisconsin Soccer Leagues Major Division with seven matches left in the regular season.

  • Michael Cox was elected the new WSL president at the group's annual general meeting March 14 in Madison. Cox, who played for Milwaukee Sport Club and is a member of both state halls of fame, succeeds Milan Vidakovich, who had served in the role since the WSL's inception in 2012.
  • The Northern Wisconsin Soccer League starts its 2015 season on May 17, with six teams in the Premier Division and six more in Division I. The league features teams from Green Bay, Fond du Lac, Howard, Kaukauna, Kewaunee, Kiel, Neenah and Oshkosh, and its season runs through July. NWSL website
  • The Central Wisconsin Adult Soccer League, with 10 teams from Wausau, Abbotsford, Antigo, Plainfield and the Minocqua-Eagle River area, also kicks off its season May 17. All league matches this year will be played at the new Marathon County Sports Complex in Wausau. The CWASL started in 2002 as the Wausau Hispanic Soccer League, but changed its name in 2012. • Meanwhile, the Madison Soccer Association season is heading into its home stretch. The Madison Fire (6-2-2) top the five-team Division 1 table ahead of Madison United (6-3-1) and Paradigm (5-2-2), while Madison Hotspur (9-1-2) lead the way among the eight Division 2 sides. The league lost one team between its fall and spring seasons, as Sporting 1836 withdrew from the top division. The final regular-season matches are May 17, with the top four teams in each division advancing to the playoffs. The semifinals are May 31, with the Division 1 matches at Breese Stevens Field and the Division 2 games on Goodman Pitch at Verona's Reddan Soccer Park, and both finals set for June 5 at Goodman Pitch.
