Prep girls notes: Meaningful wins for Valders, Sevastopol-Gibraltar

Two prep girls soccer teams had reason to celebrate their first victories of the season a little more on Monday.

Sydney Gutman and Morgan Kelly had a goal an assist as host Valders powered past Menasha St. Mary Central 5-1. It marked the first time in program history the Vikings have beaten the Zephyrs, according to the Manitowoc Herald-Times Reporter. (Read full article)

On the same night in Institute, goals by Ashley Murphy and Megan Stoneman gave Sevastopol-Gibraltar a 2-0 victory over Sturgeon Bay – their first win over the rival Clippers since 2010, coach Joe Warner told the Door County Advocate (Read full article)

  • Waukesha Catholic Memorial moved up one spot to No. 28 in this week's Top Drawer Soccer Fab 50, while Milwaukee DSHA dropped out of the rankings after suffering its first two losses of the season. The Crusaders remain third in the TDS Great Lakes Region rankings and took over the top spot in the website's Wisconsin rankings, followed by DSHA and Waukesha West. Catholic Memorial tied Hartland Arrowhead 1-1 on Tuesday, extending its unbeaten streak to 19 games (17-0-2).
  • Waukesha West is sixth and Catholic Memorial is seventh in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America Region III poll.
  • This weekend's Cardinal Classic in Middleton boasts a strong field, with six of the eight teams ranked or receiving honorable mention in this week's Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association state polls. Waukesha West and Waunakee are ranked first and third, respectively, in Division 2, while Appleton Xavier is third in Division 3 and De Pere, Menomonee Falls and Middleton all earned honorable mention in Division 1.
