Miranda Natrop couldn't have started the prep girls soccer season much better.
The Hortonville junior forward scored eight goals, matching a school record that is also believed to be a state record, as the Polar Bears dominated host Little Chute 10-0 in a season opener Monday.
Natrop – a first-team All-Bay Conference selection last spring – scored the first six goals for Hortonville, striking in the 23rd, 31st, 33rd and 35th minutes in the first half and then in the 55th and 59th in the second half. She added goals in the 66th and 69th to equal the feat accomplished by former Polar Bears standout Aubrey Kampa back in 2011.
According to the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association record book, three girls have scored seven goals in a game: Ozaukee's Ashley Bares (2005), Sugar River's Hannah Kernen (2010) and Waukesha Catholic Memorial's Emily Cervantes (2013 and '14). The boys state record for goals in a match is seven, by Pewaukee's Joe Czechowicz in 2001.
