Club notes: North Shore United U17 boys fare well at Dallas Cup

North Shore United's Under-17 boys team went unbeaten and won its group at Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup XXXVI last week in Texas before falling in the quarterfinals.

Coach Sinisa Angelovski's side tied New Mexico's Rio Rapids SC 1-1 on Tuesday and beat Cruzeiro Chicago 5-0 on Wednesday to win Group D on goal differential over Rio Rapids (plus-6 to plus-4) after both teams finished 2-0-1.

NSU lost to FC Dallas Premier 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the prestigious tournament – the youth team from the local Major League Soccer club went on to win the championship.

  • Vitalis Takawira Jr. (Kenosha), Marco Fabiano (Kenosha) and Tode Atlija (Franklin) were part of the Chicago Fire team that played at Major League Soccer's Generation adidas Cup last week in Frisco, Texas. The Fire, who fielded a roster that included many Under-15 and Under-16 players in the Under-17 tournament, beat the Portland Timbers 3-1 on Saturday to finish 15th in the 16-team Premier Division. Chicago fell to Orlando City 2-1, the Los Angeles Galaxy 3-0 and Mexican side Tigres UANL 4-0 in group play and dropped a 5-0 decision to the Houston Dynamo before beating the Timbers to close out the event. Six teams from MLS clubs qualified for the 12-team Champions Division in regional qualifying in October and February. Argentina's River Plate beat Germany's Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions final, while the New York Red Bulls topped Colombia's Independiente Medellin in the Premier final.
  • The Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association announced the schedule for the play-in games for this spring's Wisconsin State Championships. The matches will be played from April 17 through May 3, with the winners advancing to State Cup group play from May 23 to 25 at Scheels USA Youth Complex in Appleton. Play-in schedule (pdf)
