UW-Whitewater men's soccer coach Tony Guinn bolstered his coaching staff Monday, adding Scott Suprise (Neenah) and Jamie Lieberman (Racine Prairie School/UW-Parkside) as assistants.

Suprise has coached for nearly 30 years, including the past 15 as the boys coach at Milwaukee Pius High School. He led the Popes to a 222-112-30 record and 14 consecutive winning seasons before stepping down recently, and was twice named the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association Private Schools Coach of the Year.

On the club side, Suprise is the youth director of coaching for the Croatian Eagles and has been a staff coach for the Wisconsin Olympic Development Program for the past six years – he's currently the head coach for the 2002 Boys team.

Suprise also been involved with the WSCA as an executive board member and is a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America National High School Ranking Committee.

Lieberman, who ranks seventh in Parkside history in career saves and 12th in goals-against average, spent two seasons with the Milwaukee Wave's reserve team and then signed with the Norfolk SharX of the Major Indoor Soccer League. He also earned a spot in the U.S. Futsal national team pool, and spent one season with the Cincinnati Kings of the Professional Arena Soccer League.

His coaching career includes stints as goalkeeper coach at two NCAA Division I men's programs, Wright State (2010) and Dayton (2013), in addition to being the technical director with the CUSA Courage club in Centerville, Ohio. Lieberman also is the founder and CEO of a company that produces goalkeeper gloves, PEGLIYL (Play Every Game Like It's Your Last), and currently is a Second Lieutenant in the Army National Guard.

Dan Montanye (Mukwonago/UW-Whitewater) had served as Guinn's assistant for the past three seasons, but left the program in February to become head coach at Iowa Wesleyan in Mount Pleasant, Iowa.

Montanye, who ranks ninth in goals and assists in Warhawks history and also was an assistant for the school's women's team, takes over a Tigers side that scored just three goals in finishing 0-14-0 last fall and hasn't had a winning season since 2006.

  • Zach Hershoff (New Berlin Eisenhower/Ripon) was promoted to men's coach at his alma mater. He was an assistant for both Red Hawks teams last season under Sam Schroeder, who will remain as the school's women's coach and coordinator of athletic programming and student-athlete development. Hershoff played for Ripon from 2007 to '10 and ranks fourth in program history with 14 assists, and also had six goals in his 70 career appearances. He had previous stints as an assistant for the men's teams at Ripon and Lakeland, and also coaches at Appleton SC.
  • The UW-Platteville men's team returned Sunday after spending its spring break in Italy, the homeland of Pioneers coach Enzo Fuschino. The Pioneers played three matches against local teams, trained at Coverciano – the training ground of the Italian national team in Florence – and attended a professional match, in addition to sightseeing.
  • Megan Schmidt (Hartland Arrowhead/UW-Stevens Point), who stepped down as coach at her alma mater in November after three seasons, recently was named coach at Division III McMurry in Abilene, Texas. Schmidt is the seventh coach in the program's 15-year history and inherits a team that finished 7-5-1 overall last season. She posted a 23-28-4 overall record at Stevens Point, which hasn't yet named her successor.
  • Notre Dame junior midfielder Patrick Hodan (Brookfield/Milwaukee Marquette) was named the 2014 Atlantic Coast Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's soccer. Hodan was named a first-team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and also made the first team of the Capital One Academic All-American team, determined by the College Sports Information Directors of America. He led the Fighting Irish with nine goals (five game-winners) and added three assists as he was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Year, and the business major carries a 3.932 grade-point average.
