The Madison 56ers have added home friendlies against two of the state's top amateur teams to their 2015 schedule, one a tuneup before their National Premier Soccer League opener and the other a week later.

The 56ers will kick off the spring May 13 on the new turf at Breese Stevens Field against Bavarian SC, three days before their 11th league opener on the road against the Minnesota Twin Stars. Then on May 20, the Croatian Eagles will pay a visit Breese Stevens. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. for both matches.

The Bavarians' side is expected to be primarily made up of the club's top team, which plays in the Wisconsin Soccer Leagues Major Division – manager Pat Hodgins' side went 4-2-4 last fall and are fifth in the 11-team league heading into the spring portion of the season.

Croatians manager Alex Toth said he'll likely field a side with players from both the club's league-leading Majors team (7-0-3 last fall) and from their entry in the new Great Lakes Premier League – the Eagles are scheduled to play the GLPL's inaugural match May 10 against fellow Croatian club RWB Adria in Chicago.

The additions give the 56ers eight home matches and 14 games total on their schedule. They had been slated to play host to a team from Dutch amateur club v.v. DOVO on April 29, but that game was canceled.
