Last week, Peter Raymonds officially finalized his college soccer plans, signing a national letter of intent to play at UW-Milwaukee. This week, the Brookfield East forward earned another accolade for his stellar final season of prep soccer last fall.

Raymonds was named the Gatorade Wisconsin Player of the Year, making him the consensus state player of the year after he also was tabbed the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association Player of the Year.

He's the third Brookfield East athlete to claim the honor, following goalkeeper Scott Coufal (1991-92) and forward Brett Wiesner (2000-01), and now is eligible for the Gatorade National Player of the Year award. His future college coach, Kris Kelderman, claimed the 1986-87 state honor after his senior season at Neenah.

Raymonds had 32 goals and six assists in helping lead the Spartans (20-2-4) to the WIAA Division 2 state championship – their first title since 1997. The 6-foot, 150-pound striker scored seven of the team's 14 goals in the postseason, including both goals in East's 2-0 victory over Cedarburg in the state final.

"Raymonds was an impact player who really carried a big load," Waukesha West coach Marcel Feenstra said in a news release. "He was a dangerous goal scorer and a good leader, too."

In addition to the state honors, Raymonds also was an National Soccer Coaches Association of America Fall All-American, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Player of the Year and the Greater Metro Conference Player of the Year.
