Two dozen teams won both of their pool matches Saturday as Madison United's 22nd annual President's Cup indoor tournament started at BreakAway Sports Center in Madison and Keva Sports Center in Middleton.

Somewhat surprisingly, seven of the eight groups in the Men's Open competition have unbeaten teams – and three of them have a pair of 2-0-0 teams that will meet Sunday morning to determine pool champions and runners-up for playoff seeding.

Fifteen of those 24 unbeaten sides claimed the maximum 18 points on Saturday, including six Men's Open teams. The defending champions in each of the four divisions combined for a 7-0-1 record on the opening day of the 84-team tournament.

In Men's Over-38 play, five of the 12 teams won both games Saturday and four teams have clinched spots in the knockout round. The other two spots will be the top two finishers in the Eisenhower Pool, which includes defending champion Milwaukee Bavarians (2-0-0) and five-time winner FC Gherkin (1-1-0). The Bavarians can secure a spot in the playoffs by scoring one goal, regardless of the outcome of their match against Juventus (1-1-0).

The Jackie Pool of the Women's Open competition proved interesting, with newcomer CRUSA and Madison 56ers MPG – a team made up of players from 2012 champion Megna Financial and perennial contender Peanut Gallery – playing out a 3-3 draw Saturday at BreakAway.

CRUSA's roster features forward Sarah Hagen (Appleton North/UW-Milwaukee), who plays for FC Kansas City in the National Women's Soccer League and earned two caps for the U.S. women's national team last year.

Play resumes at 8 a.m. Sunday at both sites, with playoff matches throughout the afternoon. All four finals will be at Keva: The Women's Open and Men's Over-38 finals are set for 6 p.m., followed by the Men's Over-30 at 6:30 p.m. and the Men's Open at 7 p.m.

Pool scoring format: Win – 6 points. Tie – 3 points. Goals – 1 point, maximum of 3 per game.
