Feb. 1, 1998: Travis Roy (UW) was selected by the MetroStars in the second round of the Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft, the No. 14 overall pick. He was part of the Badgers' 1995 team that won the NCAA national title and the Milwaukee Rampage's USISL A-League championship team in 1997, and also was the 1997-98 National Professional Soccer League Rookie of the Year with the Detroit Rockers, but Roy never played in an MLS match. The MetroStars sent him out on loan to the A-League's Staten Island Vipers for one game, then released him. Roy, a two-time All-Big Ten Conference selection and still the third-leading scorer in UW history, returned to the Rampage later in 1998 and played professionally indoors through the 2000-01 season.
