The Milwaukee Wave had the weekend off from Major Arena Soccer League play, but there was still plenty going on behind the scenes for the indoor team.

The Wave acquired midfielder Corey Adamson from the St. Louis Ambush in exchange for rookie defender Anthony Arico in a deal completed just before the MASL trade deadline, and also signed 24-year-old midfielder Andrew Wiedabach (Mequon Homestead/UW-Milwaukee).

Wiedabach takes the roster spot vacated by midfielder J.C. Banks (Milwaukee Riverside/UW-Green Bay), who was released as he heads out to preseason training with Minnesota United FC of the North American Soccer League. Banks, 25, ranks second on the team with 16 goals and also had seven assists in 16 games in his second season with the Wave.

"Andrew has been working hard all season long with the first team (in training sessions) and has proven to the coaching staff that he can compete at this level," Milwaukee coach Giuliano Oliviero said in a news release.

Wiedabach has been a regular for the Croatian Eagles for the past few years, and also played in the National Premier Soccer League for two seasons with the Madison 56ers (2011) and Minnesota United Reserves (2014).

"I couldn't be happier," Wiedabach said. "I've spent almost two years as a reserve player and to finally get that contract ... I'm really excited. I can't wait to get the boots on and help the team any way I can."

The 27-year-old Adamson, a Florida native, played college soccer at NCAA Division II South Carolina-Aiken. He has seven goals and one assist in 12 games for the Ambush this season and recorded eight goals and four assists for them last season.

Arico posted two goals and three assists for the Wave.

"We wish Anthony all the best with his new team," said Oliviero, whose team is 10-6 and tied for second in the Central Division with four games left in the regular season – the top three teams qualify for the playoffs. "He is a fine, young talent, but we needed to find a quality midfielder and believe we have it in Corey."

Milwaukee plays a pair of road matches this weekend, Friday night at the Tulsa Revolution (2-12) and Saturday night at the Wichita B-52s (8-8), before closing out the regular season Feb. 14 and 21 at home at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.

  • Andrew Ribeiro (Green Bay Notre Dame) signed with USL PRO expansion club Charlotte Independence late last month. The center back/holding midfielder has been training with Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids, who are affiliated with the Independence. "We have been tracking Andrew for some time," said Rapids senior director of soccer development Brian Crookham, who also is the technical director for the Independence. "He is a player that reads the game very well and takes up good starting spots on both sides of the ball. He is comfortable on the ball, has a good range of passing and can play in multiple spots. We feel he has MLS upside and look forward to him joining our system." Ribeiro, 24, has played in USL PRO the past two seasons, with the Harrisburg City Islanders in 2013 and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds last year, and also spent time with former MLS club Chivas USA in 2014. "Andrew is a very competitive player, which we like," Independence general manager Tom Engstrom said. "He has had a brief stint in MLS and is very capable of getting back and staying there. He is immediately getting into the Rapids' training camp and we expect him to do well there." On Twitter: @Brazilribs
