Club notes: Bavarian U18 boys take title at Disney Soccer Showcase

The Bavarian SC Blue Under-18 team closed out 2014 by winning a title at the Disney Soccer Showcase earlier this week in Kissimmee and Davenport, Fla.

The Bavarians won their bracket in the Under-18/19 Championship Red Division with a 2-0-1 record, then topped Florida's Miramar United Elite FC Red 1-0 in Tuesday's final.

In group play, Bavarians beat Tennessee SC Premier 4-1 on Saturday and Brazilian team 2SV Sports 6-1 on Monday sandwiched around Sunday's 2-2 draw with Florida's Wellington SC Wave White.

The North Shore United Under-17 team also was among the 329 boys teams in the tournament, finishing 0-2-1 in its bracket of the Premier Black Division. NSU opened with a scoreless draw against Maryland's Pipeline SC Black, then fell to Georgia's Bryson Park SC Premier 4-0 and Texas club Solar Chelsea 4-3.

Three state sides were among the 328 teams in the girls' portion of the event, all in the Under-17 competition.

North Shore United posted the best finish, beating Massachusetts' NEFC Elite 2-1 in the Premier Red Division third-place match Saturday. NSU didn't lose in its four matches at the tournament, beating Georgia's AFC Lightning Elite 1-0 on Wednesday before 1-1 draws against Canadian club Soccer Nova Scotia and New Jersey's South Jersey Elite Barons on Thursday and Friday.

Rush Wisconsin also advanced to the third-place game in its flight, but fell to Florida Fire Junior Premier 2-1 in Premier Gray Division play. Rush Wisconsin tied Solar Chelsea 3-3 and thumped Virginia's PWSI Courage Red 4-0 in its final two group matches after losing to New York's Brentwood SC Pride 3-0 on Wednesday.

Fusion Premier, the combined team with players from Mequon SC and Grafton SC, finished 0-2-1 in the Premier Black Division. They tied New Jersey Stallions Dynamo 1-1 on New Year's Day, and also lost to South Carolina United FC Elite 1-0 and Canadian club Pierrefonds Cobras 3-1.

  • FC Wisconsin Eclipse wrapped up the year with its Under-16 and Under-17 teams posting a combined 3-1-2 record at the Elite Clubs National League Florida event this week in Sanford. The U16 side (7-7-5) beat the North Carolina Fusion 2-0 on Sunday and Pennsylvania's FC Bucks 1-0 on Monday before a 1-1 draw against Virginia's McLean YS, while the U17s played a scoreless draw against Texas' D'Feeters SC and lost to McLean 2-0 before finishing 2014 with a 1-0 victory over the Boston Breakers Academy on Tuesday.
