Two players with state ties are on the initial list of invitees to the inaugural National Premier Soccer League Combine, which is Jan. 9 to 12 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Defender Junior Boaventura, who played for the Madison 56ers last summer, and midfielder Luis Trude (Marquette) were among the 62 players named to teams representing the league's four regions.

Boaventura was one of 16 players chosen for the Midwest Region team. The 20-year-old from Switzerland was impressive at right back for the 56ers and also saw some time as an outside midfielder. He missed several games because of a shoulder injury.

Trude starred at William Carey (Miss.), earning NAIA All-American honors in 2013, before transferring to Marquette for his senior season.

A native of Brazil, he had one assist in 13 appearances (six starts) in his lone season with the Golden Eagles this fall. Trude has been a standout for Chattanooga FC two of the past three years and was named to the South Region team for the Combine.

The NPSL Combine will feature four games: The Midwest will play the West and the South will face the Northeast on Jan. 10, with the winners and losers to square off on Jan. 11. Additional players might be added to the rosters in the coming weeks.

Coaches and scouts from Major League Soccer, North American Soccer League and USL PRO clubs are expected to attend the NPSL Combine – it's being held during the same time as the MLS Combine, which is Jan. 8 to 13 in Fort Lauderdale.

  • Defender Valerie Gonyo (Waukesha Catholic Memorial), who wrapped up her career at Loyola (Ill.) in the fall, is scheduled to participate in the InfoSport Women's Combine from Jan. 6 to 8 in Plantation, Fla.
