Club notes: WYSA announces 2014 state award winners

The Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association recently announced its 2014 award winners, recognizing seven individuals for their contributions to youth soccer.

The state award winners will be recognized at the WYSA Annual General Meeting on March 14 at Monona Terrace in Madison. They also are eligible for U.S. Youth Soccer Region II honors, and the regional winners contend for national awards.

TOPSoccer Buddy of the Year: Robert Ziegler, Brookfield TOPSoccer
Volunteer of the Year: Kari Jansen, Beaver Dam United SC
Administrator of the Year: Kate Carpenter, Milwaukee Kickers SC
Girls Recreational Coach of the Year: Tom Jakubczak, Brookfield SA
Boys Recreational Coach of the Year: Laila Drescher, Sauk Prairie Strikers SC
Girls Competitive Coach of the Year: Angie Moulton, Brookfield SA
Boys Competitive Coach of the Year: Matt Callahan, Oshkosh United SC

  • The Region II 1999 and 2000 teams each finished 2-0-1 and won their respective age groups at the U.S. Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program Girls Thanksgiving Interregional, which wrapped up Friday in Boca Raton, Fla. Haddie Carlson (Lake County Lutheran/SC Waukesha) was on the 1999 team, which beat Region IV and Region I by identical 5-3 scorelines sandwiched around a 3-3 draw against Region III. Katie Koker (Racine/SC Waukesha) was part of the 2000 squad, which edged Region IV 2-1 and Region III 1-0 before tying Region I 0-0 in its finale.
  • The Madison 56ers' Under-14 boys team was 3-1-2 this fall in the Independent Division of the National Premier Leagues Midwest Developmental League, while their Under-13 side went 2-4-0. FC Milwaukee, the other state club in the NPL, was 1-6-0 in Under-13 play and 0-6-0 in Under-14 action in the Academy Division.
