The Chicago Mustangs managed only 10 shots in their match against the Milwaukee Wave on Saturday night, but still came up with a victory.

Last season's Professional Arena Soccer League champions scored five of the first seven goals and held off the Wave 5-4 in a Major Arena Soccer League game in Hoffman Estates, Ill.

Five players scored for the Mustangs (2-2) – including Joshio Sandoval, who played with the Madison 56ers of the National Premier Soccer League in 2012 – and Luis Ortega added two assists for the victors.

Ian Bennett had his second two-goal game in as many nights for the Wave (3-2), who pulled within one on Marcio Leite's goal with 3:51 remaining with an extra attacker but couldn't find an equalizer.

"I thought we were going to send the game into overtime," Milwaukee coach Giuliano Oliviero told the team's website. "It’s unfortunate. Our legs were heavy and we didn't win individual battles on defense.

"It was almost like an international game. Chicago plays a different style than any of the other teams we've met this season. They have some very good technical players."

The Wave peppered Mustangs keeper Jesus Flores, but he turned aside 26 shots to preserve the victory. Luan Sales Oliveira also scored for Milwaukee, getting the Wave on the board in the first quarter with his seventh goal of the season – he and Bennett share the team lead.

After starting the season with five straight road games, Milwaukee plays host to the St. Louis Ambush next Saturday night in its home opener. Kickoff is set for 6:05 p.m. at the renamed UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.

"We are really looking forward to playing in front of our home fans," said Oliviero, whose team will be the last of the 23 MASL sides to open its home schedule. "After five consecutive games on the road, five consecutive bus trips, we are looking forward to taking care of business at home."
