Three Wisconsin schools were among 51 nationwide to have both their boys and girls prep soccer teams earn the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for the 2013-14 school year.
The boys and girls teams from Fond du Lac, Kenosha Christian Life and Madison Memorial each had grade-point averages of 3.25 or better to claim the honor. All three schools had the same coach for both teams – Greg Winkler at Fond du Lac, Alan Krass at Kenosha Christian Life and Ben Voss at Madison Memorial. Winkler has since retired from Fond du Lac and relocated to Florida.
A total of 329 teams (194 girls and 135 boys) across the country earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award, including 12 state teams – six boys and six girls sides. WIAA Division 3 state girls champion Waukesha Catholic Memorial posted the top GPA among Wisconsin teams with a 3.81, while Fond du Lac led the boys with a 3.69.
