The Wisconsin Soccer Leagues Major Division is only three weeks into its 2014-15 season, but the league's match of the season might already have been played.
Brett Dietz scored his second goal of the night in the 89th minute, capping an huge second-half comeback as Bavarian SC pulled out a 5-5 tie with the Croatian Eagles on Saturday night at Heartland Value Fund Stadium in Glendale.
The Bavarians (1-0-1) trailed 5-1 at halftime, but got goals from Mike Unwin and Dan Holowaty in addition to Dietz's brace to storm back and earn an unlikely point. The home side finished the match with just nine men, as two Bavarians players were sent off in a 2-minute span in second-half stoppage time – including Dietz – while the Eagles finished with 10 men.
The Croatians (1-0-2) and Bavarians are among the five Majors teams still unbeaten – the Milwaukee Kickers and newcomer Madison Fire lead the way with 2-0-1 records in the 11-team league. The fall portion of the WSL season runs until Nov. 16.
