University of Wisconsin midfielder Rose Lavelle helped the U.S. advance to the quarterfinals of the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup.

Lavelle scored the final goal Tuesday, sealing the Americans' 3-0 victory over China in Moncton, Canada, that clinched second place in Group B. 

The U.S., which has gone 11-1-0 and outscored international opponents 44-4 this year, will face North Korea in the quarterfinals Saturday in Toronto. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. on ESPNU and online on WatchESPN.

Lindsey Horan, who plays for French club Paris Saint-Germain, scored in the 19th and 38th minute in the decisive match against China. Lavelle, the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Year last fall for the Badgers, started the sequence in the 49th minute that ended with her first goal for the Under-20 team.

She found Horan on the right side, then got a pass back from Horan at the top of the box , cut the ball back to create some space against defender Zhong Xiudong and fired past Chinese goalkeeper Lu Feifei to make it 3-0.

Lavelle played all 270 minutes and collected two yellow cards in group play for the U.S., which lost to Germany 2-0 in its opener Aug. 5, but bounced back with a 1-0 win over Brazil on Friday – Lavelle was named Woman of the Match by ussoccer.com.

• UW's Kinley McNicoll and host Canada also qualified for the quarterfinals despite losing their opener, beating North Korea 1-0 on Tuesday to secure advancement. McNicoll has played every minute while wearing the captain's armband for the Canadians, who rallied past Finland 3-2 after a 1-0 loss to Ghana to start Group A play and will face Germany on Saturday. Defender Victoria Pickett, who has committed to play for the Badgers in 2015, has played 29 minutes, appearing as a sub in all three matches
• Milwaukee Wave midfielder Philip Suprise (Milwaukee Pius) was one of 12 players named to the U.S. Futsal national team for a training camp from Aug. 23 to Sept. 3 in Argentina. The American squad, led by former Wave coach Keith Tozer and assistant Mark Litton (Racine St. Catherine's/UW-Parkside), will play friendlies against the Argentina national team and local club teams during the camp. The 23-year-old Suprise scored in each of his past two matches for the Futsal national team, a 5-3 loss and 5-2 win against France in June in Milwaukee.
• Houston Dynamo rookie center back A.J. Cochran (UW) started and played 63 minutes as the U.S. Under-23 men's national team dropped the Bahamas full national team 5-1 in a friendly on Aug. 6 in Nassau.
