For the second straight year, University of Wisconsin goalkeeper Genevieve Richard was honored as the top goalkeeper in the USL's W-League.

Richard, who will be a senior for the Badgers in the fall, was one of 11 players named to the W-League All-League team on Tuesday.

She tied for second in the league with six shutouts for the Laval Comets (6-5-2), and ranked third in saves (68) and fifth in goals-against average (0.83). Richard turned aside 86 percent of the shots she faced this summer.

On Monday, Richard was named to the All-Central Conference team and one of her college teammates, midfielder Rose Lavelle, was part of the Southeastern Conference honor squad.

Lavelle, a member of the U.S. Under-20 women's national team that will play in the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup next month in Canada, ranked sixth in the W-League in goals (seven) and eighth in points (16) despite playing only three league matches for the Dayton Dutch Lions.

  • Defender Blake Jones (Green Bay Southwest) and the St. Louis Lions qualified for the USL Premier Development League Central Conference playoffs. Jones, who plays for former UW-Green Bay coach Tom Poitras at the University of Hartford, has two goals and one assist and has played a team-high 1,182 minutes for the Lions (6-4-4) this summer. St. Louis finished second in the Heartland Division and will face the Great Lakes Division champion Michigan Bucks (9-2-3) in a semifinal Friday night in West Des Moines, Iowa. The Des Moines Menace (12-1-1), which claimed the overall PDL regular-season title, plays host to K-W United (8-3-3) in the other semifinal, with the winners to meet for the conference title Saturday night.
  • UW-Milwaukee midfielder Laurie Bell and the Ventura County Fusion are headed to Tucson, Ariz., this weekend for the PDL Western Conference playoffs. Bell had two goals and six assists in 10 regular-season matches – he tied for fourth in the league in assists – as the Fusion (8-3-3) won the Southwest Division. Ventura County takes on Northwest Division champion Kitsap Pumas (9-1-4) in Friday's semifinals, while Mountain Division winner FC Tucson (11-2-1) battles wild card entry Vancouver Whitecaps Under-23 (8-3-3) for a spot in Saturday's final.
  • Washington's Issaquah SC Gunners, whose roster includes goalkeeper Laura Atkinson (Oregon) and midfielder Amber Davis (Milton), lost to the California Storm 3-1 in the Women's Premier Soccer League West Region semifinals Saturday in Redondo Beach, Calif. The Gunners (7-4-0) closed out their season with a 9-1 loss to the North Bay FC Wave in a regional consolation match Sunday.
  • The Wisconsin Soccer Leagues Women's Premier League playoffs are Saturday at North Shore United's PWSB Soccer Park in Cedarburg. The 11 a.m. semifinals will feature the Croatian Eagles Majors against the Neenah Cyclones and North Shore United Under-23 against the Madison 56ers Capitals. The final and consolation match are set for 3 p.m.
