June 27, 2001: David Hayes scored the 62nd-minute opener and Igor Soso added an insurance goal in the 89th as the Milwaukee Rampage topped the Utah Blitzz 2-0 in a U.S. Open Cup matinee watched by 1,828 at the Milwaukee County Sports Complex in Franklin. Dan Popik didn't need to make a save against the Division 3 Blitzz as the A-League club earned a matchup against Major League Soccer's San Jose Earthquakes in the Round of 16. "For our club, this is a dream come true," Rampage coach Boro Sucevic told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. In a unique twist, the game was the first of an Open Cup doubleheader – the Chicago Fire of MLS blanked the A-League's San Diego Flash 3-0 later in the evening, getting two goals from Eric Wynalda to win in front of 3,409 fans.
